Letters from Amman and beyond
I was a mid-career Fulbright Scholar in Amman, Jordan for the academic year 2009-2010. My daughter was 16-years old at the time. No more do roosters and calls to prayer wake us at the break of day. We just don't have roosters and muethens in Maplewood, New Jersey. I miss Amman every day. Don't remind me of it's unwalkable streets, or that it's not pretty like Paris. I don't care that trees are occasional and parks are scarce. The people are hospitable, taxis plentiful, and the pace of life allowed me time to think. I miss thinking. But I'll try. And I'll write.
